Inflation in the consumer sector of the republic for 10 months of 2017

1. Consolidated consumer price index and inflation rate

In 10 months of 2017, consumer prices for goods and services increased by 9,3%.

 

Prices for food products in the period from the beginning of the year increased by an average of 9,4%, non-food products increased by 10,3%, services - by 7,2%.

The factor analysis of changes in consumer prices for January-October 2017 reflects the prevailing influence of price changes on goods relative to similar changes in services. Thus, the share of influence (contribution, in other words) in the growth of prices for goods in overall gowth in inflation was 83,9%, and for services - only 16,1%.

2. The consumer price index for food products

As it was mentioned above, in the period from the beginning of the year food products became more expensive by an average of 9,4%, which ensured a total increase in the CPI by 4,1 percentage points (share of influence on the consolidated CPI is 44,3%).

Dynamics of inflationary processes for food during 9 months of 2017 was uneven. Thus, the most significant price increase occurred in February (by 1,9%), September (by 1,8%) and in October (by 1,7%), while decline in prices in June and July was 1,0% and 0,7% respectively.

Among major groups of food products, prices for the following types increased most significantly compared to December 2016:

 

In current year, seasonal changes in prices for fruits and vegetables are characterized by a tendency of increase from January to April and decline from May to September. In October, under the background of the general increase in prices in this group of products, the prices for white cabbage decreased by 18,0%, onions by 12,8%, carrots by 9,0% and potatoes by 2,1%.

The total effect of changes in prices for fruit and vegetables and the groups of food products indicated in the diagram for the total increase in the CPI amounted to 3,6 percentage points. (the share of influence is 38,5%).

3. Consumer price index for non-food products

The dynamics of prices for non-food items during the 10 months of 2017 is characterized by a steady trend towards growth. Thus, on average for a month, non-food products rose by 1,0%, and for the period from the beginning of the year - by 10,3%.

Influence of the rise in prices on non-food products on the total CPI growth was 3,7 percentage points. (share of influence on the consolidated CPI is 39,6%).

 

The main factors that affected the price with non-food products, prices of steel rose by 50,2%, tobacco products - by 17,8%, personal care products - by 14,7%, fabrics and yarns - by 14,6%, basic household goods and electrical appliances - by 11,5%, washing and cleaning products - by 11,2%, communication and building materials - by 10.7%, household textiles - by 10,4%, clothes and footwear - by 10,9% and 10,2% respectively.

The increase in prices for these groups of non-food products led to an increase in the consolidated CPI by 2,9 percentage points. (their share of influence on the consolidated CPI was about 31,1%).

4. Consumer price index for services

In the sphere of paid services, tariffs for the population increased by 7,2% in January-October 2017, which led to an increase in the CPI by 1,5 percentage points. (share of influence in total increase in prices for goods and services – 16,1%).

The main inflation factors in this area were increases in tariffs for communication services - by 23,8%, cultural institutions - by 14,7%, preschool institutions by 8,3%, passenger transport by 6,9%, housing and communal services - by 6,8%, household - by 4,6%.

The growth of tariffs for these services ensured the growth of the consolidated CPI by 1,4 percentage points, and the total share of influence was about 15,0% of the total increase in prices for goods and services.
